The
Emsworth Show 2009
Once more August Bank Holiday Monday was warm and sunny and
the Society was fortunate to be able to celebrate this year’s Show in
perfect conditions. We were happy to see a large number of visitors who
seemed to enjoy what was on offer. Some of them were kind enough to
write, phone, email or tell us in person how much they enjoyed the day.
We were pleased to welcome the Mayor of Havant, Jackie Branson who
opened the Show and our MP, David Willetts who gave out the prizes. The
entries in the marquee were of high quality and there were so many that
we had to expand into an extra tent. The second marquee had some
excellent demonstrations and the arena events were well received.
HOWEVER, we were still desperately short of the active people
we need to help 'set up' and ‘take down’ the Show over the Bank Holiday
weekend. Some of those who were undertaking such activities have said
that they are not prepared to do it again unless there are additional
people who are willing to erect, move and dismantle tables, gazebos,
chairs etc. As a result, and in view of the considerable forward
planning required for the show, it is essential that we know now or in
the near future that sufficient physical help will be forthcoming next
year — OTHERWISE THERE WILL BE NO EMSW0RTH SHOW IN 2010. We are always
most happy to receive help and support from persons and organizations in
and around Emsworth who wish to see the Emsworth Show continue. Just
get in touch by emailing
ehsinfo@tiscali.co.uk
or phone 01243 376596 and let us know.
On a more positive note, you will be pleased to know that
there is a small surplus from this year's Show and discussions are
currently under way as to which local worthy causes this should be
distributed (after a transfer to the 'Rainy Day Fund'). We are always
willing to consider requests for small amounts.
You will no doubt have seen other details of the Show in the
Chichester Observer, The Portsmouth News, the EMS Valley Gazette or THE
EMS itself, so no need to repeat these here but just to say thank you
again to all those who contributed in any way, including Havant Borough
Council, local businesses, exhibitors, helpers and visitors. We do hope
to have a Show and to see you all again next year.
