WELCOME TO THE HOME PAGE OF THE EMSWORTH HORTICULTURAL
SOCIETY..
The Society was formed in 1919, originally for local
allotment holders, and we offer membership nowadays to
anyone who has an interest in gardening of any sort.
Currently membership is only £3 per household per year.
We aim to provide something for all our members by
providing -
A distribution store
offering most gardening
requirements at reasonable cost. Advice is available here.
A programme of talks
on gardening and related
subjects
Coach outings
to gardens of horticultural and historical
interest
An annual 4 day holiday
Additionally there are opportunities to meet with fellow
enthusiasts and admire local gardens at our
‘Garden
'Natter Mornings’
and occasional
‘Open
Gardens’. Plant Sales
are held annually at the
distribution store (the
‘hut’) and at talks.
Quarterly newsletters
keep members informed.
On each August Bank Holiday Monday
the Emsworth Show
is held on the Horndean Road
Recreation Ground.
This is based around a large marquee which houses our
horticultural show of vegetables, fruit and flowers plus
cookery, craftwork and photography. Special classes are
held for children and young people. Many other
attractions are available at the Show and details are
posted on the Show Page in the summer.
The Society is affiliated to the Royal Horticultural
Society, the Hampshire Federation of
Horticultural Societies, the British Fuchsia Society,
the National Dahlia Society, the National
Vegetable Society, the Royal National Rose Society and
the National Chrysanthemum Society.
