SPOT THE ART IN THE GARDEN
EHS
small garden for Hampton Court Palace Flower Show
We were very relieved to hear from the R.H.S. in
February that the Society's garden entry, designed by member Annette
Wood, had been selected for the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show. It has
been all systems go since then with Annette and her team busy sourcing
plants, artefacts and materials. Annette's innovative design, entitled
'Spot the Art in the Garden' is intended to be an interactive,
stimulating and educational resource which can be adapted for use in a
school setting. Semi hidden in the garden will be features from
paintings (e.g. Rousseau's Tiger) which visitors will be encouraged to
search for after referring to 'Art Posts' along the boundary where each
artist's work will be shown. The whole concept is to foster children's
enthusiasm and interest in gardening, plants, art and artists.
Planting has been chosen
to provide impact as well as beauty and includes bamboos, grasses,
sunflowers, white lilies, white pelargoniums, blue salvias, nasturtiums,
verbena bonariensis, calendulas, cypress trees, citrus plants,
cordylines and of course water lilies (á la Monet). It should be a
delight to see.
The Society is fortunate
in receiving help both practical and/or financial from various sponsors
and expresses thanks to:
We are very grateful to
Annette for her design and hard work and also to her very enthusiastic
team of helpers who have a wide variety of expertise, willingly given.
