Emsworth Show – the best little Show in the South

August Bank Holiday  Monday 27

 - 10:30 to 17:00

Our   team   of   volunteer   managers   have   been   working   for   months   to   get   this   show ready:    Did    you    realise    it    costs    about    £25,000    to    stage    the    annual    Emsworth Horticultural    Show?        In    less    than    8    weeks,    the    Jubilee    Recreation    Ground    in Horndean   Road   will   be   transformed,   with   lots   of   stalls,   bands   and   displays   to   keep visitors   entertained,   all   day.         Central   to   this   special   family   Show   is   the   huge Marquee;   inside   you   will   find   wonderful   fruit,   flowers   and   vegetables   grown   by   our green-fingered   local   gardeners,   as   well   as   amazing   crafts,   floral   displays,   cookery, children's   classes,   photography,   and   much   more.      The   schedule   has   just   arrived from   the   printers,   so   if   you   and   your   children   want   to   win   a   prize   for   your   prowess, do look at the lists, and enter by August 22 nd .   In   order   to   fit   in   as   much   as   we   can,   and   still   have   space   to   move   safely,   we   once again   hope   that   as   many   people   as   possible   will   be   able   to   drive   the   short   way down   Thorney   Road,   to   New   Life   Church,   and   use   our   lovely   Park   and   Ride    buses (provided   by   Emsworth   &   District   Buses),   which   have   platforms   that   can   be   lowered to   make   them   fully   accessible,   and   run   till   6   pm.   There   is   plenty   of   hard   surface     disabled    parking,    with    buses    stopping    right    by.    Parking    at    the    Showground    is strictly   limited ,   but   you   will   be   able   to   drop   off   and   pick   up   your   passengers   from the Tennis Court car park. Once   inside   the   Grounds   (still   only   £5      to   enter   for   adults,   with   children   under   12 FREE );  you will find lots to entertain you.   NEW   THIS   YEAR   are   the   Sussex   Army   cadets   display   teams,   racing   each   other   to take   2   or   3   Jago   kitcars   apart,   go   down   to   the   far   end   of   the   Arena,   re-assemble them   and   then   drive   them   back!!      Many   favourites   like   'Fit   'n   Funky'   will   be   back again.      The   popular   Dog   Show   starts   at   2.00   pm   –   have   you   got   a   dog   who   could win   the   prize   for   dog   with   the   waggiest   tail?      There   will   be   a   myriad   of   stalls,   with the   now-famous   Bubble   and   Squeak,   as   well   of   bands   of   all   sorts   serenading   you while   you   enjoy   a   cuppa.   Then   pop   into   the   big   Marquee   and   see   if   you   have   won   a prize,   or   simply   admire   the   wealth   of   local   talent.         Don't   forget   to   buy   tickets   in   our Prize   Draw,   where   you   could   win   the   star   prize   of   a   scenic   flight   from   Goodwood   for 2 people. The   Show   committee   and   all   our   volunteer   helpers   look   forward   to   seeing   you   on August   Bank   Holiday   Monday.      Meanwhile   we   hope   we   will   soon   have   some   rain   to swell   the   fruit   and   vegetables,   but   that   we   then   have   a   dry   day   for   the   Show   (it   has only   rained   all   day   for   2   shows   since   1984,   though   2015   was   pretty   muddy!).        Please   do   get   in   touch   if   you   can   help   in   any   way   over   the   Show   weekend,   or before.
